Week 1

Hey! It was a blast today looking at the official union tribune building! I think it would be great to voice out the event to other schools such as UCSD and SDSD. I know many students that attend both school r super fond of our campus and im sure if we put on an open event they would LOVE to attend it. I also have been trying to get the down low how to get the event passed and kind of have harsh new. it is very HARD to get an event passed. The head person for Rely for Life had a crazy time approving the valley field for their night event. And our "ideal" location is a bigger and more popular spot. and apparently there are many red flags USD sets up to approve an event. I am going to go contact head student affairs to just propose the idea. but by next TUESDAY we NEED to have a few DATES and LOCATIONS to give.

Week 1

I'm excited to get the ball rolling on this semester long project of working with UT San Diego. The tour we had today was a great introduction to the company but I still think there's lots to learn. It'll be interesting to go around to the 3 different departments to learn the skills and attributes of each one. Next week we will probably have a better idea of how working in the office will be and what projects we'll be working on whether it be a group project or individual. I'm going to try and stop by the Successful Aging Expo this weekend at some point to see what type of event it is and how UT San Diego throws big events. This could be helpful in planning our big event at the end of the course. I've researched both UT San Diego, DiscoverSD and the Daily Deals a bunch so I'm looking forward to all we will learn!

Week 1- Briana Seyarto

Visiting UT- San Diego today was so informative, and got me really excited about contributing my work and ideas to this project. I was a little skeptical at first on how they were going to incorporate so many of us into the work that they do, but I really admire the plan they have in place. I think this is a great way for the company to reach out to the 19-25 age demographic, and am excited for all of us to contribute some new ideas.

My favorite part was learning about the operations side of the company, but I also liked the feel of the advertising dept, as well as other departments around the office. There seems to be a busy energy to it, which I am excited to be a part of.

A few ideas I'd like to bring to the table are utilizing their "deals" section to appeal to more of the 19-25 year demographic, and even making a rewards program of some sorts for visitors who add UT- San Diego as their home page, on facebook, etc. I think we do read the news, but more casually and in a different way. Their distribution of the actual paper seems to be pretty successful, and I'm also really interested in the different conventions and expos they sponsor. I think this would be a great way of continuing to make sales and get their name out.

week 1

Hi everyone!
I’m also very excited about working with UT San Diego. I’m sure that getting to work with a real company, in its offices, and tackling real life problems that the company is facing will be very enriching. I think it is time to start using all of the theory we have learned by know and use it for practical issues. In addition, I think that they are also very excited about working with us and have planned out a lot of things. I see that they have a clear outline of what we are supposed to do, showing that they are prepared and trust us. We will definitely not disappoint them! I also think that the training on Wednesday will be great. We are actually very lucky to have this opportunity so we should all try to go. I’m interested to see how their focus of training is.
I’ve also been checking their webpages and have a few ideas about how to make the brand closer to young people. I’m from Barcelona and young people there read the newspaper every day. I will think of how newspapers have achieved that at my city and I will try to bring up some ideas from there to our projects.
Regarding the event, I think that having bands come in would be great, although we have to be careful with the budget. I also think that bringing food from companies that are actually on the daily deals would be a great idea to promote them. Also, doing something with social networks should be a must. Since I’m new to the school, I still don’t know how everything functions so I will try to keep up with this information and think of good ideas.
See you!!
I think that today's visit went very well and it makes me even more excited to get the ball rolling in our individual groups as well as collaborating together as a whole group. I thought it was interesting that they told us we are not restricted to USD for the final event. That opens up the possibilities even more to possibly include other schools like SDSU or UCSD. I think we are all on the same page when I say that we should decide on a venue as soon as possible because that is always the biggest hurdle at USD as well as anywhere else we might want to hold the event.

I am looking forward to solidifying our groups next week and finding out what is in store for us in the first rotation. I would really like to bring my interest and knowledge of Internet marketing to the table because I feel that is a very crucial component in integrating DiscoverSD with UT and really targeting our age group.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Week 1

I am so excited for the opportunity to work with UT San Diego. As a San Diego native, I grew up reading the Union Tribune, so it will be interesting to experience the behind the scenes workings of such a large publication. I think UT San Diego's biggest problem is getting people in our age range to become interested in subscribing to a newspaper, whether online or in print. Their idea of incorporating DiscoverSD into their company was definitely a move in the right direction, but in order to truly attract their target audience, they must make the website appeal to us. Simplifying the DiscoverSD homepage, and condensing their multiple Facebook pages would a great start. I can't wait to start working with UT San Diego and see where this semester takes us!

post1 - 2/7/12

Hi Class!

So far I have just been researching the UTSanDiego and discoversd websites.  I think that all of us should “like” the facebook pages, just so it gives us an idea of how we can consolidate it into one or two rather than 5 different ones!  I was thinking that maybe each of us could think of a deal that we would like to see on the daily deals page, just because our choices would most likely appeal to other people in our age range, which is the demographic they are trying to get more insight into.

I’m excited to start working with this company and my team.  I think it will be a great opportunity/fun experience, and also has great incentives, seeing that at least one student will be hired at the end.  See you all tomorrow! :)
