On wednesday we met with Kevin for our first day in the sales rotation. He gave us our "Sales 101" class, which was a lot more useful than I first imagined it would be, and then went on to discuss interviews/interview techniques and resume ideas (what to highlight, what to leave out, etc). Kevin had Emily come up with a sales pitch for a pen that she pitched to the group. He then used her pitch to reflect on common trends and mistakes most salesmen make day to day. Emily did really well by first asking questions and feeling out her audience, which most people do not (they are too worried about talking about their
product without actually finding the customers
needs).
We ended our session by going over resume ideas and how to approach your job search after graduation. Since Kevin actually takes part in the hiring process for the sales dept. at UT, he was a perfect candidate for us to learn from. His main point on Resume's was not to try and fabricate real work experience (since everyone knows we really don't have any), but rather to really focus on what sets you apart from the rest. Overall, it seems as if the Sales rotation is going to be a great learning experience about the driving force behind all of business.
Happy Easter Everyone!!!
