Concept week 1
This week we started in the concept group. On Monday we went over the basics of what news was and what makes a story newsworthy, so on and so forth. We went over the idea of relevancy and making sure that when you write a story, that you have all the facts otherwise you (as a reporter) lose credibility and also the source whom you're reporting for (UT) can lose credibility also. Sorry it got cut off but here's the rest of what I was going to say -- today as we went into more detail about the assignment we had two speakers come in and talk to us about Twitter and live tweeting. They gave us some pointers and guidance on how we should use it to our advantage and make it interesting without overdoing anything. I think their information was very useful in finding out what approach we should take on tweeting about our event. Also we had Michael come in and speak with us about photojournalism and how we should take photos to document the event we'll be covering. He also gave us some good advice on how to make normal pictures more dynamic and appealing. We were each assigned a mentor to help us along the way while we're working on our event. The assignment is due next Wednesday and we have to bring in everything to share that day. I'm still not sure what event I'll be covering but look forward to seeing how reporters go about getting their stories and putting everything together. I am excited to hear about everyone's events next week and hopefully the concept process of covering an event and writing a story goes smoothly! -Sarah
