Group 2- Marketing Dept.
This week, my group started with the marketing department. We were each assigned a UT product; my assignment was the UT San Diego website. We briefly listened to some of the different challenges and goals for each of the products. For the website, the main goals that UT SD wanted me to focus on were increasing visitors, increasing the number of pages read by each visitor, and appealing to a younger demographic. We asked some different questions- our group's products consisted of the Contest department, the new SD Padres app, a UT app, and DSD. We got to hear about all of them and ask questions about what challenges they've had. This Wednesday, we brought in a list of challenges with the product that we found upon doing our research. I found some challenges with the overall visual impact of the website. I thought there was too much competition with ads, the headlines weren't eye-catching enough. However, the site is extremely well organized. I came up with a couple ideas to maybe personalize the website a little more so that people browse the site as opposed to reading one article. We are supposed to be reviewing them today, and we will be presenting power points with a proposed marketing campaign for each of the products. I've really enjoyed researching the website so far and feel like I'm learning a lot just thinking hands on about the product.
